Telcoin

What is a Wallet?

A crypto wallet is how you hold, send, and receive digital assets such as TEL and Digital Cash stablecoins. It is your entry point to the Telcoin Ecosystem and to any blockchain.

The name is a little misleading. Your money never actually sits inside the wallet. Your balance lives on the blockchain, and the wallet holds the keys that prove it is yours and let you move it. Think of the blockchain as a public ledger and your wallet as the only pen that can sign for your account. Whoever holds the keys controls the funds.

Key terms

Term

What it means

Wallet address

Your public account number, usually starting with 0x. Safe to share so people can send you funds.

Private key

The secret that signs transactions and controls your funds. Never share it with anyone.

Recovery phrase

Usually 12 or 24 words that can rebuild your wallet on a new device. Anyone with these words can take your funds.

Network

The blockchain your assets are on, such as Ethereum, Polygon, or Telcoin Network. Sending to the wrong network can mean lost funds.

Gas

The small fee paid to process a transaction. On Telcoin Network, gas is paid in TEL.

Who holds the keys?

The most important difference between wallets is who controls the private keys.

Custodial wallets. A company holds the keys for you. Exchange accounts work this way. Signing up is easy and you can reset a lost password, but you are trusting the company with your funds. If it freezes withdrawals, gets hacked, or shuts down, you may lose access.

Self-custodial wallets. You hold the keys yourself, usually backed up with a recovery phrase. Nobody can freeze or move your funds without your keys, and you can connect directly to apps and DeFi. The trade-off is full responsibility: if you lose your recovery phrase, nobody can get your funds back.

Assisted self-custody. A newer model that sits between the two. You keep control of your assets, while the wallet adds familiar protections such as account recovery, identity verification, and customer support. The Telcoin Wallet uses this model.

Hot and cold wallets

Wallets also differ in where your keys are stored.

Hot wallets keep keys on an internet-connected device. They are convenient for everyday use.

  • Mobile wallets are apps on your phone, ideal for payments and on-the-go use. The Telcoin Wallet is a mobile wallet.
  • Browser extension wallets such as MetaMask and Rabby sit in your web browser and connect to DeFi apps, including TELx.

Cold wallets keep keys offline, usually on a hardware device such as a Ledger or Trezor. Transactions must be approved on the device itself, so your keys stay safe even if your computer is compromised. They suit larger balances you don't move often.

Many people use both: a hot wallet for daily spending and a cold wallet for savings.

The Official Telcoin Wallet

The Telcoin Wallet is a mobile app built for everyday digital money. It uses assisted self-custody, so you keep control of your assets with the support and ease of use of a modern banking app.

With the Telcoin Wallet you can:

  • Hold TEL and Digital Cash. Keep TEL, eUSD, and other Digital Cash stablecoins in one place.
  • Send money directly. Pay and transfer eUSD peer-to-peer, without intermediaries.
  • Open an eUSD bank account (US only). Eligible US residents can open an account with Telcoin Digital Asset Bank after identity verification. USD deposited by bank transfer is converted 1:1 into eUSD in your wallet.
  • Move funds on-chain. Send your assets to other wallets across supported blockchains. To use DeFi apps such as TELx, send funds to a browser extension wallet, since the Telcoin Wallet doesn't include a dApp browser.
  • Get help when you need it. Telcoin's support team is available 24/7 worldwide.

eUSD is issued by Telcoin Digital Asset Bank, a chartered US Digital Asset Depository Institution, and is backed 1:1 by cash and short-term US Treasuries. eUSD and eUSD bank accounts are not FDIC-insured.

Choosing a wallet

The right wallet depends on what you want to do.

If you want to...

Consider

Hold and send Digital Cash, with support if something goes wrong

The Telcoin Wallet

Provide liquidity on TELx or use other DeFi apps from a computer

A browser extension wallet

Build and test apps on Telcoin Network

A browser extension wallet with a dedicated test account

Store a large balance long term

A hardware wallet

You don't have to pick just one. Using different wallets for different jobs is common, and it limits your risk if one is ever compromised.

Keeping your wallet safe

  • Never share your recovery phrase or private key. No genuine support team, Telcoin included, will ever ask for them.
  • Back up your recovery phrase offline. Write it down and store it somewhere safe. Avoid screenshots, cloud notes, and email.
  • Download wallets from official sources only. Use the official app stores or the provider's website, and check the developer name before installing.
  • Check addresses and networks before you send. Confirm the first and last characters of the address, and make sure you are on the right network.
  • Be careful what you approve. Only connect your wallet to sites you trust, and read each signature request before confirming.
  • Ignore unexpected messages. Scammers pose as support staff, airdrops, or upgrade portals. Find official links through official Telcoin channels yourself.
